摘要: This paper presents an investigation of stakeholders’ perceptions towards research evaluation in China mainland. RESEARCH hereby involves humanities and social sciences (HSS) only. A comprehensive review of the related literature is conducted, leading to proposing several hypotheses on perceptive differences of diverse stakeholders towards research evaluation. A survey is conducted to investigate various stakeholders including authors, reviewers, policy-makers and evaluation researchers, in order to identify their perceptions towards research evaluation. Significance tests are carried out to estimate whether the differences between different stakeholders’ perceptions are significant. The results show that significant differences do exist between authors’ perceptions and reviewers’ perceptions, as well as between evaluators’ and policy-makers’. Therefore, it is needed to consider these differences in developing appropriate research evaluating schemes in HSS areas. The findings of this study provide implications on how to improve the performance of HSS research evaluation.
