Abstract:
Roger T. Ames positsargues that the translation of classical Chinese philosophical texts by Western scholars has long been unwittingly influenced by an unconscious Christian framework,  a legacy that persists to the present daytoday. In contrast to previous translationDeparting from traditional approaches, he Ames and his partners collaborators have proposedhave proposed  a new novel translation strategymethdology, which they cal termedl  self-consciously interpretative .Their This approach interpretive comprisesstructure consists of an introduction that providinges an interpretive context, an evolving glossary of key philosophical terms, a self-consciously interpretive translation, and the inclusion of the defi nitiveauthoritative critical Chinese text. This approachThis approach situates the text within its own cultural milieu and places the text in its own context and remains is a form of translation that is faithful to the original intent.
From the perspective of comparative philosophy, Roger T. Ames proposederivesd  Confucian role ethics  based on thefrom the foundational concept fact of relationship  within Confucian ethics. He believescontends that: Confucian role ethics would insist onemphasizes the primacy of vital relationships, and would precludeexcluding any notion of final ultimate individuality. ;Confucian role ethics resists opposes a non-critical the uncritical substance ontology underlying that separates a conception of agency that requires a separation between the agent of conduct and the conduct itselfagent from action conceptually. Moreover, ;Confucian role it underscores the ethicists appreciate the dramaticpivotal role that of the body has as integral to achievingin shaping personal identity and consummate exemplary conduct, portraying the body as the nurturing and growing root of human behavior. ——the body as the root or trunk through which human conduct, being nourished and grown, becomes refulgent;Confucian role ethics emphasizes highlights the  vitalcritical role that the process of moral  imaginationcreativity plays in fostering profound thought and ethical consummate thinking and living, without engaging in competition ;Confucian role ethics does not compete with virtue ethics or any other ethical theories. Instead,y but it presents a moralis rather a vision that transcends of the moral life that resists the theoretical-/practical divides.
SoBased on these assertions, Roger T. Ames believes posits that Confucian role ethics is aespouses relational values that advocatespromoting respect and  interinterdependence, presenting. It provides the besta viable solution for to transcendding the “zero-sum” nature of human survival plight and is an effectively solution to deal withaddressing the prevalence of individualism in the current internationalcontemporary global society.
